ABOUT ME

MY PROFESSIONAL CAREER

My profession began as a preschool teacher where my sensitivity led me to connect naturally with children. In addition, I felt the impetuous need to intervene for the most vulnerable people. This concern led me to study Psychology and obtain a Master’s Degree in Social Work. I obtained a clinical license with a specialization in Mental Health in the United States of America.

Being a social worker for the Department of Child Protective Services, as well as interning at the Crisis Center in Montgomery County, MD, strengthened my clinical skills. Testify in court in cases involving sexual, physical, emotional abuse and/or neglect.

This challenging experience prepared me to respond to crises, in addition to facilitating the development of the necessary skills to help people regain their safety after experiencing adverse and traumatic situations that leave deep emotional and physical wounds.

Similarly, as a psychotherapist I worked for Aspire Counseling in the Healthy Mothers and Healthy Babies Program where I gained extensive knowledge in managing postpartum depression, and anxiety.

After a few years, I started my career as a mental health therapist in my private practice where I emotionally support people with different mental health conditions, diverse cultures, ages or professions.

Also with work experience working for Montgomery County Public Schools I have supported immigrant and minority students. I have also worked for the program for youth with social and emotional disabilities.

OUR APPROACH AND SPECIALTY

From a varied model, the work is approached from three main areas:

Clinical Perspective, the basis is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Thought patterns and how these thoughts influence daily emotions and actions are identified. This with the purpose of achieving changes in behavior and self-regulation of emotions.

Spiritual Perspective, we work from “Inclusion” and respect for the practices and beliefs of each human being. Aspects such as forgiveness, reintegration and spiritual inventory are areas that are addressed in the sessions. The goal is to achieve a more harmonious personal development.

Strengths Therapy, the person is defined as “unique” and this work approach is directed towards the abilities, internal qualities and talents, not on the deficiencies of the human being. The main goal is to increase self-esteem and self-determination.
